Marit Meløe is a Norwegian dance artist and choreographer from Tromsø, based in Oslo. After moving to Leeds in 2016 to study at Northern School of Contemporary Dance, she has worked as both a performer and a creator since graduating. While Oslo is her main base, her work takes her across Norway and internationally, with a particular focus on Northern Norway.
As a performer, Marit has collaborated with a range of choreographers and companies since 2019. As a creator, she primarily works as part of the artistic duo Meløe/Engebretsen, developing performances that have toured nationally and internationally. Through this work, she has gained experience in artistic development, performance, production, and the practicalities of touring independent productions.
Marit has also been part of an international team developing large-scale concert performances in Bern, Switzerland, combining dance, choir, and baroque orchestra. Working as a co-creating choreographer, dramaturg, and performer, she has gained experience in developing and leading productions from initial concept to final performance, as well as collaborating across artistic disciplines. These experiences have strengthened her interest in collective processes and the importance of care, respect, and attentiveness in collaborative work.
Alongside her artistic practice, Marit works as Production Manager, with a particular responsibility for finances, at Parkteatret Scene in Oslo. She is also Project Manager for Øya International, Øyafestivalen’s international delegate programme.
Her artistic approach often draws on play and improvisation as tools for creating open, unfiltered, and honest processes. She is interested in how concepts can be reinterpreted through embodied exploration, and in how movement-based practices can offer new perspectives on nature, society, and the structures that shape our lives.
