Alternative Landscapes is a series of improvised dance performances in public spaces. The work reimagines the body as a living landscape, and explores its relation to city structures in imaginative and playful ways.
The idea came about in the midst of theatres and performance venues closing down, and is a simple act of reclaiming the world and our immediate surroundings as a place to watch and perform dance. The ever-evolving performance follows a set structure with rules, and allows audiences to experience the development of the work as it is performed. It communicates a rawness and instinctive tactility through the performers' responses to their surroundings.
The work can be seen as a relfection of urbanism, questioning how we partcipate in society and claim our space in the public. In times of uncertainty, we celebrate the beauty of a simple meeting between two people, and the Alternative Landscapes we navigate through.
