HOOP is a hope circle
A performative togetherness
A prayer to the gods of performance and an action to remind ourselves we are distant but together.
HOOP is a collaboration between choreographer Roza Moshtaghi and the artist group De Naive, and addresses people and places in public spaces. Together they create a performative togetherness where repetitive movements arise, then dissolve. In HOOP, rocking is used both as a visual tool and as a shared activity between the performers.
Every time HOOP visits a new location, it is designed in collaboration with new performers. The community in the group is strong, together they perform a movement material that accumulates and is structured in the encounter with different surroundings. HOOP for Bodø Biennale is performed with both local and visiting dance artists.
Stay where you are, HOOP is coming for you!
About the object hula hoop
Native American Hoop Dance is a narrative dance that uses hoops/rocking as props. The circle is an important symbol for many cultures around the world. In recent Western history around 1950, ¨hooping¨ was introduced as a toy or object used to get in shape and thus became part of pop culture and normalized.
